Sports betting and trading – Free resources for football betting & trading

SPORTS BETTING/TRADING  – Free resources for football betting & trading

In this article, we will guide you towards some of the excellent free resources you can find on the internet which will come in very handy before and while you are betting or trading.

STATS SITES FOR PRE MATCH RESEARCH

There are numerous stats sites available for free, plus a large number of premium sites. When you start up as a serious trader or bettor, the free resources are more than adequate – you can later decide to use one or more of the premium sites, especially since they offer more than just stats but that’s not the topic here.

One of the most important stats sites to use for your pre-match research is soccerstats.com.

Soccerstats.com offers the standard stats like league tables, home/away stats, goals scored & conceded, etc. but they deliver much more than that. If you want to research a specific match, you get a wealth of additional information about the two teams.

  • How often do they score first?
  • How often do they lead at half time?
  • How many matches above 1.5 goals, 2.5 goals, 3.5 goals, etc?
  • An easy way to find results against other teams in the league at comparable positions
  • Etc.

All in all, soccerstats.com is an extremely useful site which you should make sure to bookmark.

There are new sites arriving regularly so creating a ”final” list is impossible, however the following sites are all very useful and you should bookmark and check them all:

SoccerSTATS.com – https://www.soccerstats.com/

Fcstats.com – https://fcstats.com/

WhoScored.com – https://www.whoscored.com/

TheStatsDontLie.com – https://www.thestatsdontlie.com/

Understat.com – https://understat.com/

Soccerway.com – https://int.soccerway.com/

AdamChoi – https://www.adamchoi.co.uk/#/

Footcharts – http://www.footcharts.co.uk/index.cfm

The Understat site should have a special mention here as it is the only site shown here which includes the xG parameter (xG = Expected Goals). xG is a relatively new parameter for most bettors or traders. To some, xG is a much more accurate reflection of a team’s strength than, say, shots on goals. The difference between shots on goals and xG is basically that xG looks at the likelihood of a goal being scored based on where the attempt came from – e.g., a shot from outside the penalty area results in a smaller xG score than a shot from the goal area. The parameter shots on goals do not take this into consideration – a shot on goal from 40 meters distance to the goal counts as much as a shot on goal from 5 meters. As a bettor, this site can be interesting as you can use the stats to create a ”table of justice”, i.e. a table based on the number of goals scored & conceded whereby you can see if a team is over or underperforming against the number of chances they create and ”receive” (this feature is obviously already implemented on the site). As of now (March 2020), the site only covers a limited number of leagues (the England Premier League, Spain’s la Liga, Germany’s 1. Bundesliga, Italy’s Serie A, France’s Ligue 1 and Russia’s Premier League).

SITES FOR LIVE SCORES/IN-PLAY STATS

Just like the stats sites, there are plenty of free live score sites.

Below is a list of some of the best.

FlashScore – https://www.flashscore.com/

Sofascore –  http://sofascore.com

Livescore – https://www.livescore.com/

InfoGol – https://www.infogol.net/en/matches/today

The two first have country-specific versions.

The InfoGol is the only free live score site that we know of at the time of writing which provides live in-game data for xG. Like the Understat site, the data is limited to a number of larger leagues so far and we haven’t tested it to check if the numbers are truly representative of the matches so use it at your own discretion, however as InfoGol is provided by TimeForm, we expect the data to be reliable.
